2D/3D Christmas Animation 2022
During my internship semester, it was my job to design the annual Christmas greetings for the customer base. It quickly became clear that this year’s choice would be an animated message. After we had discussed the various concepts and agreed on one, I started with the first hand drawings of a polar bear opening a present from which the Christmas greetings would emerge.
For the intro, I modeled candy canes in Blender, animated them with the Physics Simulator so that they fall down and then rendered them as a PNG sequence so that I could import them into After Effects. I also looked for suitable sounds on a website to capture the atmosphere and support the animation with sound. The final 25-second animation is a combination of the hand-drawn frame-by-frame animations, the rendered 3D animation for the intro, the incorporation of effects in After Effects and the sound. Finally, I used Photoshop to create a thumbnail for the video. After finalization, the video was uploaded to YouTube, embedded in web format in an e-mail and sent to the customer base in time, about a week before Christmas, with the text I had written.
